The Episcopal Mission in Hellertown began in November 1908 and shared space with the village high school.  In 1909 services were moved across Main Street to the Furnace School.  St. George's erected its first building in 1926 at Wagner and Main Streets.  The present building was constructed and dedicated in 1950.  After many years of service by missionaries or seminarians St. George's called the Rev. David F. Gearhart to be its first fulltime Vicar in 1954.  To serve the growing congregation the Christian education wing was added in 1966.  In 1979 St. George's became a self-supporting parish with the Rev. Peter Cheney as its first Rector.
